Holy Week update:
I think most Latin American countries have the practice of praying a living Stations of the Cross during Holy Week. For those of you who may not know, the Stations of the Cross (also called the Way of the Cross) is a devotion in which one recalls and meditates on the different events that took place as Christ carried His cross to Calvary. Most parishes pray the Stations together on Fridays during Lent, and the parish here in Bánica is no exception, but last Friday things were a little different. Instead of praying all the Stations in the church as usual, we started up at the top of town and made our way down to finish at the parish, stopping along the way to create the scene of each station (the youth group handled that part).
In Pedro Santana there is also the tradition of the caminata penitencial, the penitential walk. We left from the parish church in Pedro Santana at about 6:30 a.m. to walk to the chapel in Descubierta, one of the closest of the Pedro Santana campos. We sang and prayed the rosary and the stations along the way, and finished with Mass in Descubierta, where people from the other campos further out had gathered to meet us.
Now, I did take pictures of all this, but they're taking forever and a day to load, and since the internet at the parish is down, I'm online out here at the parish center on a borrowed bicycle which I have to return kind of soon, so the pictures will have to wait for another post.
